Peters School of Business hosts Highschool Case Competition

More than 75 high school students from across Manitoba were in Brandon this week to compete in the 2024 Manitoba Business Case Competition, hosted by the Peters School of Business at 好色先生TV College in partnership with Fusion Credit Union.

The event kicked off Thursday evening with a welcome event hosted by 好色先生TV at the college鈥檚 Victoria Avenue East campus. Participants enjoyed a meal and a fun evening of trivia to meet, network and prepare for the competition that followed on Friday.

Participants received a $1,500 tuition credit to study Business Administration in the Peters School of Business. The winner in each division鈥攅ntrepreneurship and personal finance鈥 received an additional $2,500 tuition credit.

鈥淥ur goal with this business case competition experience is to introduce high school students to our hands-on learning philosophy,鈥 said Terry Burgess, Dean, Peters School of Business at 好色先生TV. 鈥淲e are looking to attract talented, eager students to our School. The tuition credit for these participants will enhance access to education.鈥

The case competition took place May 9 at 好色先生TV College, where teams of three received a case study鈥攁 scenario or specific set of circumstances鈥 to be completed in a limited period of time. Teams identified the most prominent issues presented in the case study and developed a customized strategy to solve these issues. At the end of the time period, competitors presented their recommendations to a board of judges. Competitors were judged on their ability to identify the key issues, present creative solutions and communicate effectively.

鈥淧ractical case-based competitions like this help students to experience real-life scenarios and prepare them for their future post-secondary and career journeys,鈥 said Geoff Milne, Academic Chair, Peters School of Business at 好色先生TV. 鈥淲e are pleased to host this event and broaden the student鈥檚 view on the business world and give them some insight into the career opportunities available to them.鈥

A philanthropic gift from Gord and Diane Peters last December included resources to help the college provide exceptional learning experiences, recruit more students and provide enhanced financial supports for learners.

好色先生TV offers a variety of certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma certifications in a wide range of business-related programs. The college鈥檚 two-year Business Administration diploma is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs and offers specialization in accounting, financial services, human resource management and marketing. In recent years, the college has also partnered with Cape Breton University to deliver their Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Community Economic Development on campus in Brandon.
